Private Lessons

Quote from drumming great

Steve Smith (Journey, Vital Information)

"Mike  embodies the qualities of a good private instructor. In the early 90s I was Mike's private teacher so I know that he is a disciplined and motivated, practicing musician. Mike continues to improve both as a player and teacher each year, which is the proof that he "practices what he preaches!"

Mike is now accepting students of all levels for private lessons, online or in person.

For over 39 years, Mike has been teaching all styles of drumming to students of all ages. Mike’s own education includes studying extensively since 1992 with drumming great Steve Smith (Journey, Vital Information), as well as lessons with Alex Acuna, Carl Allen and other local drummers. He won awards playing in his High School’s bands and as a member of the De Anza College Jazz Band.

Lessons specialize in all styles of drumming while emphasizing technique, reading, playing to a click, recording and live performance, also advanced concepts such as understanding polyrhythms, feeling odd meters, developing your own vocabulary and more.

Mike teaches both at his studio in San Jose, CA.  (Safe for social distancing as it is a big room and we are at least 12 feet apart) or online via Zoom to students anywhere in the world.
